Sten and Lex are two Italian street artists. They produced their first stencil in the streets of Rome in 2001 and today are amongst the primary representatives of “Stencil Graffiti”. Over the course of a decade they created portraits of anonymous characters discovered in 1960s and 1970s photo archives. From 2010 they began creating stencils out of paper and gluing these to walls, blending stencils with posters and creating the Stencil Poster process. In 2008 Banksy invited them to participate in the London Cans Festival alongside major representatives of international stencil art. In 2012 they created an outer facade for the Macro Museum in Rome under the guidance of Bartolomeo Pietromarchi and in the same year exhibited works in the Magda Danysz gallery in Paris and Shanghai. Since this last exhibition the duo started working on abstract forms, to this day depicting abstract urban and industrial landscapes.
