Description

Having the Colosseum as your view? make it happen and stay at The Grand Amphitheater - a modern two bedroom, two bathroom apartment right in front of one of the seven wonders of the world. The best contrast you will ever experience. Where will you be located? You will be in the Rione Monti, a young and vibrant area between the Roman Forums and the Colosseum. Enter any bistrot and you find art and live music. The house is located in one of the oldest streets of Rome: just the name, ca va sans dire. And yet Via del Colosseo, where the Colosseum overhangs offering a breathtaking view, has a sub-threshold charm, understatement, perhaps due to the majesty it has lost over the years (for example the church of Santa Maria Mater Divinae Gratiae or the Tower of the Countess, both missing), and that give her that nostalgic, romantic tone. Just below the house, there is the Baroque Church of Santa Maria della Neve, today a place of prayer of the Community of Sant Egidio. Also on the street, there is the sixteenth-century Villa Silvestri, today reduced to a suggestive state of abandonment and decadence, built by Pope Paolo III Farnese's waiter of honor in 1547 on a majestic project by Antonio da Sangallo. This road has a decidedly picturesque feature, given by the sacred shrines: small votive madonnas placed on the walls of buildings: therefore, nose always up! CIR 6657

The combination of ancient statues and busts with the technological devices of Rome’s first public electrical power plant is an exciting sight to behold. The plant ceased all activity in the early 1960s and remained out of use until 1997, when it received the loan of a number of sculptures from the Capitoline Museums. This was meant to be temporary, but instead became a permanent exhibition. It represents an extraordinary example of museum conversion, a visual pastiche that results in a very evocative effect.

    Trekking in Villa Ada

Right in the heart of the city, Villa Ada is Rome’s second largest public park. As fascinating as it is surprising, between archaeological ruins and history both ancient and recent, with its luscious vegetation and thriving animal population, this green lung is the ideal location for regenerating walks. Across woods and paths, we will take travelers among the ruins of ancient civilizations as well as the evidence of a less remote path, such as the bunker used by the Savoia family during the Second World War, or a collection of mysterious tombs. Hidden between clearing and chasms, and isolated from satellite signal, if you are fortunate you may also meet the man who lives in the trees.

Collections. Set of objects, fruit of the wisdom of a single person. Each one refers to a mental path of the person who collected them. In the wooden and paper chest created by Vanvitelli, each book is something existing, alive, traceable. Just look for it. Just know what to look for. Like the pilgrims who find the Madonna alive on the threshold of Loreto, where Caravaggio gives light in the shadows while Raphael illuminates the eternal colors of the prophets. Wander underground to discover the shape of the new and return to the new world. Winckelmann traces the contemporary, through the gaze of the Ludovisi Era and Hermes awaits the new cunningness, under the Altana Altemps.

Engraved in stone, the lion still bites the gazelle. Deep wells where sacred waters gave birth to the Chosen People. The Emperor’s deep maroon that envelops the bricks. Wells that have long since collapsed, shrouded in darkness, places where you find yourself in front of endless arcades that used to belong to Rome during the days of the Empire. Perpetually closed doors, in monastic sacredness. The myth of the empire that decorates the new principles of the Renaissance with its marbles. The Grand Palace, which lives between the upside-down Rome of the Botteghe Oscure and the marbles of the nobles of the Ghetto, whose palace looks like blocks of marble, resting on the sand.
